Mjölkgropen, Eng. translation Milking Parlour, is a film in where the artist returns as a breastfeeding mother to the dairy farm where she grew up to film the milking of the cows. In close-ups of udders and teats, we follow the milking procedure to the beat of the milking machines. While a calf stands by in a nearby box.
A milking parlour is a milking system where the cows are lined up along a pit in the barn floor where the milking machines are mounted.

The video work uses stock footage filmed by drones and cross-cuts life imagined from above with the narration of an on-ground local inhabitant. Rural landscapes of the western world pass by with captions of escapism, while a voice from one of the images reminds us of rising house prices and the everyday.

“In the old days it was important to keep the fire in your fireplace burning. As the main light and heating source, it was also how you kept the (evil) spirits from entering your home and bringing misfortune. The fire signalled human presence.
Nowadays there are many newly built houses with cold fireplaces, homes that stand empty most of the year. I used to imagine living in one of those houses. At around 4 or 5pm everyday during wintertime, a lamp would be turned on in the summer houses. We who lived there all year round knew it was a lamp timer and that nobody was at home.”
In the video an empty designer house receives a visit from an ancient spirit, known as 'Di sma undar jårdi' (the little folk under the ground). From field research on northern Gotland (where the artist grew up), the video explores ideas of modern architecture/holiday homes, folklore and local heritage.
